The shared bathrooms lacked privacy, which might be off-putting.

The shared kitchen area was well-stocked and convenient.
My stay at Magome Chaya Hotel was quite disappointing. The room felt excessively cold in the evening, making it hard to relax comfortably. Additionally, sitting on the floor for hours without any chairs was less than ideal, especially for those not used to it. The surroundings, although picturesque, involved a steep hill, which was a hassle while carrying luggage.

The stay was lovely as it allowed for easy access to the beautiful Nakasendo trail, making our hiking excursions very convenient. I particularly enjoyed the communal area, which was well-stocked for guests to prepare light meals and snack. Having a dining area that offered delicious meals created a pleasant atmosphere for winding down in the evening after a day of exploration.

We stayed at Magome Chaya for 2 nights when we walked the Magome-Tsumago Trail. The owners went out of their way to ensure our family had an amazing stay. The dinner and breakfast were both amazing, especially the unique dishes we got to try. We also appreciated the shared kitchen, which was well-stocked, allowing us to make our own snacks.
Our room was pretty cold in the evening.

Magome Chaya is a charming spot along the Nakasendo trail. The room was spacious, perfect for our needs, and the traditional futons added an authentic touch. I loved the shared kitchen area, which was well-stocked with cutlery and a fridge for guests. We made our own snacks. The communal dining area served wonderful meals, and the dinner was delicious, though it might not fill everyone. I appreciated the nearby convenience stores and eateries, making it easy to find food options. One downside was the communal bath setup. while I found it manageable, some might prefer more privacy. The walls were thin, so I could hear movements from the hall, which might disturb light sleepers. Overall, a solid and unique experience in a beautiful setting.

A unique traditional escape
The hospitality of the staff was remarkable, always smiling and ready to assist. The meals they prepared were delightful, and the shared kitchen allowed us to whip up light snacks. With the Nakasendo trail right at our doorstep, we enjoyed lovely hikes in breathtaking scenery.
However, the shared bathrooms lacked privacy, which may be a concern for some. Moreover, the thin walls made it easy to hear conversations and movements from the common areas, which could be disruptive for light sleepers.

Staying here was such a delight. the futon was comfy, and the traditional tatami was well maintained. I loved how close it was to so many attractions like the Magome Lookout Point just a few steps away and the Toson Memorial Museum under a 10-minute walk, making my city strolls so enjoyable.
